Beach weather is a balance. Warm, dry weather is appealing, but very strong wind or extreme UV can make the same afternoon less enjoyable. GoodDayTo rates the weather signals it can genuinely measure and keeps sea state, water quality, flags and lifeguard information outside the score unless those data are explicitly available.

Weather is only one part of a beach day
GoodDayTo looks for warm conditions, lower rain risk, brighter skies and manageable wind, while treating very high UV as a caution rather than pretending stronger sunshine is always better. A GO means the atmospheric weather looks inviting for spending time at the beach. A WAIT can be useful when morning cloud, wind or showers are forecast to improve later.
For longer visits, check the full good window and plan sun protection even on partly cloudy days. Wind can make a warm air temperature feel much cooler near exposed coasts, and blowing sand can reduce comfort before the wind reaches genuinely hazardous levels.
What the beach score cannot know
The score does not measure sea temperature, waves, swell, rip currents, tides, water quality, jellyfish, lifeguard status or beach warning flags. Those factors can matter more than the weather. Always follow local flags, lifeguards and marine warnings. GoodDayTo answers “is the weather pleasant for a beach visit?”—not “is the sea safe to enter?”
What the score means
GO means the weather signals we can measure look favourable. WAIT means conditions are mixed and a better hour may be nearby. NOT TODAY means the forecast currently contains enough unfavourable signals that this activity is unlikely to be a good weather choice. These are planning recommendations, not safety clearances.
