How GoodDayTo judges fruit-picking weather
Fruit picking usually combines walking, standing and repeated bending or reaching over a longer period. GoodDayTo therefore rewards mild apparent temperature, lower rain risk, useful daylight and manageable wind. It also reduces the score when UV becomes strong enough to make a long exposed visit less comfortable.
A shower does more than make visitors wet. Wet grass, muddy rows and damp fruit can change the experience even after the rain has stopped. The weather model can see forecast precipitation, but it cannot see whether the field or orchard is already muddy from earlier weather.
The activity is kept separate from a generic walk because a pick-your-own trip normally has a destination, an opening window and crop availability. Those operational details are not weather data and are intentionally not guessed by the score.
Why daylight gets priority
Most fruit farms and orchards operate during daylight, and seeing the fruit, paths and uneven ground is easier in natural light. GoodDayTo therefore caps after-dark recommendations instead of suggesting a late-night period simply because the weather becomes calmer.
Why heat and UV matter
Picking can be surprisingly physical, especially with children or when carrying containers. A slightly cooler morning may be more useful than the brightest part of a hot afternoon. The score can therefore prefer a milder window even when both periods are dry.
What the score cannot know
GoodDayTo cannot know whether strawberries, apples or other crops are ready, whether the farm is open, whether booking is required, how muddy the field is, whether dogs are allowed, what containers are provided or whether the farm has closed a section after rain. Check the farm’s own information before setting out.
